Portico Quartet (2014-2017 Portico ) is a British band that combines jazz with electronic music .
history
Portico Quartet was founded in London in 2005 . At the beginning of the band's history, she combined elements of contemporary jazz , ethnic music (mainly through the use of a slope ) and minimalism . For their debut album Knee-Deep in the North Sea , the band was nominated for the 2008 Mercury Music Prize .
In 2011, founding member Nick Mulvey left the band. In 2013, his successor Keir Vine left the band, which meant they lost their landmark at the time - the Hang. The band name was changed to Portico shortly afterwards and the trio signed a contract with the renowned independent label Ninja Tune . Her music, which has already become more and more electronic in the past , now differs significantly from the previous albums on the first Ninja Tune album Living Fields . With the album Art in the Age of Automation , the band returned to the old quartet line-up; their music also approached the sound of the first albums again.
