Portrush ( Irish Port Rois ) is a small coastal town with about 6,000 inhabitants in the historic County of Antrim , in north-east Ireland . Portrush offers its visitors two large beaches that are used for both bathing and concerts in summer. In addition, tourists will find a small amusement park and what is said to be Ireland's largest nightclub, Kelly's. The Royal Portrush Golf Club is one of the UK's most elite golf clubs and hosted the British Open in 1951 and 2019 . Portrush is conveniently located for touring some of Northern Ireland's major tourist attractions, including the Giant's Causeway , Bushmills whiskey brewery and Dunluce Castle .

Outside the tourist season, Portrush is primarily used as a residential area for students at the nearby University of Ulster at Coleraine.
