The Poznan Royal Castle (Polish: Zamek Królewski w Poznaniu ) is one of the oldest royal residences in Poland .

The original building dates back to the 13th century under the rule of Duke Przemysł I of Greater Poland . It was significantly expanded under King Przemysł II and became one of the most important royal residences in the Kingdom of Poland . The castle has witnessed many historical events . In 1493 the Polish king received the homage of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order Johann von Tiefen here. The castle was partially destroyed during the Great Northern War 1700–1721 and fell into disrepair. Parts were restored in the late 18th century , but destroyed again during World War II in 1945. From 2012 a part in the south was rebuilt.
