Helmut Plettner

Helmut Plettner (born November 15, 1929 ) is a former German diplomat . He was Ambassador of the GDR in Chad , in Guinea , Sierra Leone , Mali and Burkina Faso .

Life

From 1944 to 1947, Plettner completed an apprenticeship in administration in the district office in Oschersleben . From 1947 to 1951 he was an employee of the internal affairs department in the district office of Oschersleben. From 1952 to 1959 he worked as a teacher at various SED party schools in the Magdeburg district . 1959/60 he was a worker in the lower shaft furnace in Calbe (Saale) .

From 1960 to 1964, Plettner studied at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam-Babelsberg with a degree in political science and then entered the diplomatic service of the GDR.

From 1964 to 1966 he was a member of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA), from 1966 to 1969 attaché or third secretary at the GDR's economic and trade mission in Mali. Between 1969 and 1971 he completed an additional degree in economics at the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 1971 to 1973 he was Sector Manager Central Africa in the MfAA. From 1973 to 1975 he was counselor and deputy head in Kinshasa ( Zaire ). From 1976 to 1979 he was the GDR's ambassador in N'Djamena , the capital of the Republic of Chad. From 1979 to 1982 he acted as sector manager in the coordination and control department at the MfAA.

From April 1982 to October 1985 he was ambassador of the GDR in the Guinean capital Conakry and from February 1983 second accredited in Sierra Leone . From 1986 to 1989 he was Sector Head West Africa in the MfAA. From July 1989 to 1990 he was the last ambassador of the GDR in the Malian capital Bamako , from where he received a second accreditation in Burkina Faso .

Plettner was a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany .
