Johannes Schöche

Johannes Schöche (born December 19, 1937 in Leipzig ) is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to numerous African countries, including Mali and Angola .

Life

Schöche attended high school, passed the Abitur and then studied from 1956 to 1960 at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam-Babelsberg . He completed his studies with a degree in political science.

Since 1960 he was an employee of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). 1962/1963 he was an attaché at the economic and trade mission of the GDR in the Malian capital, Bamako , then from 1966 to 1968 deputy head of the trade mission. From 1968 to 1970 he studied at the diplomatic college in Moscow . From 1970 to 1973 he was the head of the GDR commercial agency in Bamako as a legation councilor . From April 1973 he was first chargé d'affaires , from October 1973 to July 1975 finally ambassador of the GDR in Mali , in addition he was second accredited as ambassador in Togo and 1974/1975 also in Upper Volta . From 1975 to 1978 he worked as a sector manager in the North and West Africa department of the MfAA. From 1978 to 1980 he was Director General of the State Planning Commission . From January 1981 to September 1985 he was ambassador of the GDR in Luanda and at the same time from March 1981 to September 1985 ambassador to São Tomé and Príncipe . For his work as ambassador to Angola, he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze on October 3, 1985 . From 1985 to 1987 he was Deputy Head and from 1987 to 1989 Head of the East and Central Africa Department of the MfAA.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Schöche worked at a research institute or was unemployed. In 1995 he led a development project in Mozambique. Schöche is today (2010) chairman of the board of Solidarity Service International eV , the legal successor of the Solidarity Committee of the GDR.

Schöche was a member of the SED , the PDS and is now a member of the Die Linke party .
