Post-clipping alopecia

Post-clipping alopecia six months after hip replacement.

The Post-clipping alopecia is a particularly when domestic dog emerging local form of baldness ( alopecia ), in which the hair does not grow back after a virgin within three months. Nordic dog breeds with a thick coat are particularly often affected ( husky , pomeranian , chow-chow , German shepherd ). The cause is not known. A genetic component and temperature-related circulatory disorders of the hair follicles are suspected .

When examining a skin sample microscopically, all hair follicles are in the telogen phase of the hair cycle , while both telogen and anagen hair follicles are found in hairy areas. It can take up to two years for a new hair cycle to start in the shaved area.

One speaks of secondary post-clipping alopecia when regrowth is suppressed by latent disorders of the hair cycle as a result of other diseases. Especially the coming thyroid , the adrenal glands overactive , the hyperestrogenism and Alopecia X into account.
