Canine hyperestrogenism

The hyperestrogenism at the dog is a disease image obtained by an over-production of female sex hormones ( estrogens is caused). The disease occurs in both bitches and males and can have various causes.

The clinical picture in humans is found under hyperestrogenism .

causes

Hyperestrogenism is z. B. caused by ovarian tumors or ovary cysts . In male dogs, hyperestrogenia can be caused by testicular tumors . In both sexes, a tumor of the adrenal gland can in rare cases lead to hyperestrogenism.

The pathological changes in the sexual organs produce too much estrogens, which can have various consequences.

Castration is suggested as a treatment measure for the male, and an ovariohysterectomy (removal of the uterus and ovaries) for the bitch . If there are no complications such as tumor metastases or myelophthisis, the symptoms should normalize again within 3 months after the animal has been operated on by the veterinarian.
