Mukometra

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mukometra (from Latin mucus "mucus" and Greek metra "uterus") is an accumulation of slimy fluid inside the uterus . The clinical picture is rare in women and plays a greater role, especially in the gynecology of domestic animals. The transition from the accumulation of aqueous liquids ( hydrometra ) is fluid. As a result of secondary bacterial colonization, a mukometra can develop into uterine suppuration ( pyometra ). The disease is often symptom-free. There is a Mukometra a long time, then by damage to the lining of the uterus an infertility arise.

causes

The mukometra is caused either by disturbances in the drainage of the mucus normally formed by the glands in the uterine lining or by excessive mucus formation.

In women and mare there are mainly drainage disorders due to developmental disorders during the organogenesis of the female genital organs from the Müller ducts such as closed hymen ( hymen occlusivus ) or the formation of braces in the cervix .

In other mammals, hormonal imbalances are primarily responsible for the development. Inadequate production of progesterone in the sexual cycle leads to stimulation of the glandular secretion, but not to the suppression of follicle maturation and thus the proliferation of the uterine lining. In cows, ovarian cysts or granulosa cell tumors with increased estrogen levels ( hyperestrogenism ) are usually the trigger. In dogs, the prolonged use of heat suppressed drugs is usually responsible. The illegal use of steroid anabolic steroids to increase fattening performance can also cause mukometra.

Diagnosis

The filling of the uterus can possibly already be felt through the abdominal wall. The means of choice are the detection of a homogeneous hypoechoic fluid by sonography and the puncture of the fluid under sonographic control.
