Mail bike
The postal bike , also known as the delivery bike , postal bike or cargo bike, with which postmen are on the move, is probably the best-known transport bike .
history
Bicycles were first used in the postal service in 1896. At the Deutsche Bundespost they were used by local, rural and express deliverers and mailbox emptiers as well as in the telecommunications fault clearance service. Today they are mainly used for the delivery of letters, and mailbox emptying takes place again in places by bicycle. In 2009, Deutsche Post AG had over 19,000 bicycles in use. Since 2014 there have been pilot projects for the delivery of DHL shipments (mainly express) by bicycle. Other parcel services are also trying out delivery by bike. Several private delivery companies are now using postal bicycles.
