The postal newspaper sales , abbreviated as PZV , was the state sales organization in the GDR for all press products at home and abroad. According to Paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Law on Post and Telecommunications of April 3, 1959, Deutsche Post was solely responsible for the transport and sale of continuously published press products. According to Paragraph 3 of the Post Newspaper Distribution Ordinance of April 3, 1959, the distribution of press products by Deutsche Post comprised all activities from taking over the press products to handing them over to the recipient.

The PZV was subordinate to the district offices of Deutsche Post, subsequently to the post and telecommunications offices at district level or the main post offices in cities with independent telecommunications offices . The distribution took place through the individual sale , mostly through newspaper kiosks or through the sale through a subscription . Most of the newspapers and magazines in the GDR could only be produced in insufficient numbers. In 1985 5,201,000 newspapers and magazines were distributed, of which 2,942,000 were by subscription. Only newspapers and magazines that were listed in the newspaper list of the newspaper sales office (ZVA) were offered. Deletion from this list was tantamount to a ban on press products in the GDR. B. happened in 1988 at Sputnik magazine .

The headquarters of the PZV was in East Berlin , partly on the site of today's Postbahnhof at Ostbahnhof . The PZV also operated the advertising for the press products. This advertising activity resulted from the social task of the Deutsche Post according to paragraph 12 of the postal newspaper distribution regulations. In addition, the postal newspaper sales department was responsible for collecting radio fees in the GDR.

After the end of the GDR in 1990, the Deutsche Bundespost, as the legal successor, gave up all newspaper sales and transferred most of all newspaper sales outlets in the new federal states to the postal service service company. This was established in 1998 by the Dr. Eckert taken over.
