Poul Thomsen

Poul Mathias Thomsen (born May 21, 1955 , Aabenraa ) is a Danish economist who has worked for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) since 1982 and is a member of the Troika . He graduated from the University of Copenhagen with a degree in economics in 1979 , where he was an assistant from 1979 to 1982.

He has been working for the IMF in the former Yugoslavia since 1987 , including during the civil war from 1991 to 1995. From 1990 and 1991 he was IMF representative in Belgrade . Between 1992 and 1996, he led the IMF missions to Slovenia and the Republic of Macedonia .

Between 1996 and 1998, Poul Thomsen was also head of the IMF mission in Romania , a country that was hard hit by the crisis and in which the IMF pushed through severe wage cuts in negotiations it led.

From 1998 to 2000 Poul Thomsen headed the IMF department in Russia , between 2001 and 2004 he was IMF representative and head of the Moscow office .

Poul Thomsen is currently the Deputy Director of the IMF's Europe Department and, as such, has led and leads the litigation in Iceland , Greece , Portugal , including Ukraine and Romania. In all cases, Poul Thomsen stood out through a policy of rapid privatization and sharp cuts in public wages .
