history

The university was founded in 2005 through the merger of the following prefectural universities:

  • the (older) Hiroshima Prefectural University ( 広 島 県 立 大学 , Hiroshima-kenritsu daigaku , English Hiroshima Prefectural University , in Shōbara , founded 1954),
  • Hiroshima Prefectural University of Women ( 県 立 広 島 女子 大学 , Kenritsu Hiroshima joshi daigaku , in Hiroshima, founded in 1920) and
  • the Hiroshima Prefectural College of Nursing Science ( 広 島 県 立 保健 福祉 大学 , Hiroshima-kenritsu hoken fukushi daigaku , in Mihara , founded in 1995).

Hiroshima Prefectural University (older)

The (older) Hiroshima Prefectural University was founded in 1954 as Hiroshima Agricultural University ( 広 島 農業 短期 大学 , Hiroshima nōgyō tanki daigaku ). The short university was in Higashihiroshima and had two departments: Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. The former campus in Higashihiroshima is now the headquarters of Hiroshima Central Science Park ( 34 ° 23 ′ 54.6 ″  N , 132 ° 44 ′ 5.2 ″  E ).

In 1989 she was raised to the (older) Hiroshima Prefectural University and moved to today's Shobara campus. It had two faculties (business administration and bioresources) and founded the master’s courses in 1994, then the doctoral courses in 1998.

Hiroshima Prefectural University for Women

The women's university has its origins in the advanced course established in 1920 at the Hiroshima Girls' Higher School. The advanced course developed in 1928 to the Hiroshima Women's College ( 広 島 女子 専 門 学校 , Hiroshima joshi semmon gakkō ) with three departments (Japanese literature, health care and clothing). On August 6, 1945, she was damaged by the atomic bomb and lost 11 people.

In 1950 it became the Hiroshima Women's Short University, and in 1965 it became the Hiroshima Women's University with two faculties (humanities and home economics). Masters courses have existed since 2000 and have been renamed Hiroshima Prefectural University for Women.

Hiroshima Prefectural School of Nursing Science

The college was founded in 1995 as the Hiroshima Prefectural Short University of Nursing Science. In 2000 it was promoted to a 4-year prefectural college.
