The Tuesday Islands , english Tuesday Islets are an Australian group of islands in the south of the archipelago of the Torres Strait Islands . They are around three kilometers southeast of Wednesday Island .
etymology
The (western) name of the archipelago comes from Captain William Bligh , who crossed the Torres Strait from June 2 (Tuesday) to June 5, 1789 (Friday) in a westerly direction ( Kupang ). He named some of the islands he passed after the days of the week of his four-day transit: First the Tuesday Islets , then Wednesday Island , Thursday Island and Friday Island . Sunday Island , which he passed on the previous Sunday, May 31, 1789 and which no longer belongs to the Torres Strait Islands, is located around 200 kilometers southeast of the Tuesday Islands near the east coast of the Cape York Peninsula .
