Inner Islands (Torres Strait)

Inner Islands refers to an island region in the Torres Shire administrative district of the Australian state of Queensland . The area includes some of the Torres Strait Islands in the southwest of the Torres Strait waterway , which are relatively close to the northern tip of Australia, Cape York .

Thursday Island , the administrative headquarters of the (Australian) Torres Strait Islands , is located in the region. Other islands in the Inner Islands include Prince of Wales Island , Horn Island and Hammond Island .
