Career

Guram Guduschauri grew up in Tbilisi and began wrestling there as a teenager in 1977. He became a member of "Uroshai" Tbilisi and developed into an excellent wrestler in the Greco-Roman style. As a junior he was not able to stage himself in such a way that he would have been used in international championships in the former Soviet Union .

In 1984, however, he had reached the top Soviet class in the heavyweight division (then up to 100 kg body weight). But he could not prevail against the established wrestlers Nikolai Balboschin , Valeri Dolgich and Igor Kanygin . However, it has already been used in international tournaments to gain international experience. In 1985 he took part in the Grand Prix of the Federal Republic of Germany in Aschaffenburg and won the heavyweight division ahead of Leri Chabelowi , who was the real freestyle wrestler in the Greco-Roman. Style and the Romanian Savin.

In 1987 he was then, quite surprisingly, used at the World Championships in Clermont-Ferrand . He was able to convince there completely and immediately became world heavyweight champion ahead of the US-American Dennis Koslowski and the Romanian Vasile Andrei .

In 1988 he again won the Grand Prix of the FRG in Aschaffenburg in front of Vasile Andrei, Gerhard Himmel from the FRG and Andrzej Wroński from Poland . He was then also sent by the Soviet Union to the Olympic Games in Seoul. There he played no role in the heavyweight division, dropped out early and had to be content with 7th place. Olympic champion was Andrzej Wronski before Gerhard Himmel.

After these games he, who had immensely difficult competitors in the Soviet Union until 1991, then in the CIS in Anatol Fedarenka , Sergei Golubowitsch , Nikolai Inkow and Sjarhej Dzjamjaschkewitsch , no longer played at international championships. From 1993 he started for his home country Georgia , but only took part in the 1995 European Championships in Besançon . He took 5th place in the heavyweight division. With Mikael Ljungberg from Sweden , Georgi Saldadze from Ukraine and Sergei Lishtwan from Belarus , new people dominated this weight class.
