Dennis Koslowski

Dennis Marvin Koslowski (born August 16, 1959 in Watertown , Codington County ) is a retired American wrestler .

Career

Dennis Koslowski comes from South Dakota and started wrestling with his brother Duane at the age of seven. From 1980 he attended the University of Minnesota at Morris. His trainer there was Craig Olsen. During his university days, he won the NCAA Division III Collegiate Championships in the heavyweight division in 1980 and 1982, drawing attention for the first time. From 1983 he wrestled among others for the Minnesota Storm Wrestling Club and the Gophe Wrestling Club. From 1983 to 1992 he won the USA championship a total of seven times. He wrestled exclusively in the Greco-Roman style. From 1983 onwards he was also featured in many competitions at international level. His coach in the US wrestling team was Dan Chandler.

His first start in an international championship he completed at the Pan American Games in 1983 in Caracas , where he finished 2nd in the heavyweight division. In the 1983 World Championships in Kiev he was at the start and finished there in 6th place.

In the USA Olympic elimination for the 1984 Olympic Games, he was defeated by Greg Gibson and could not take part in these games. In 1985 he was back at the World Championships in Kolbotn, Norway. He started in the super heavyweight division and came back to 6th place.

In 1987 he took second place again at the Pan American Games , and shortly afterwards he celebrated a great success at the World Championships in Budapest ; he became vice world champion. In the final he was defeated by the Soviet athlete Guram Guduschauri .

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 Dennis lost in the final of his group against the eventual Olympic champion Andrzej Wroński from Poland , but retained the upper hand in the fight for 3rd place against Ilya Georgiev from Bulgaria . The Olympic bronze medal was the reward for that.

In 1989 and 1990 Dennis paused on the international wrestling mat to advance his professional training as a chiropractor . 1991 celebrated a comeback on the wrestling mat and came in 7th place at the world championship in Varna in the heavyweight division.

He was not satisfied with this position and increased his training schedule. He received his reward for this at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , where his wrestling career ended with winning a silver medal. He beat the 1988 Olympic champion Andrzej Wroński in his group and was defeated by the Cuban Héctor Milián after extra time with 1: 2 points in the fight for the gold medal .

After the Olympic Games in 1992 he resigned from active wrestling. He worked as a trainer at Lakeland College and practiced as a chiropractor. He was also the assistant coach for the US national wrestling team in the Greco-Roman style. He also made a great contribution to a project that he initiated and that aimed to get young people off the street into the sports halls and into wrestling.
