Sue Island , also known as Warraber or Warraber Island , is an island in the middle of Torres Strait , a waterway between Australia and Papua New Guinea . The island is located in the west of a 11.25 km² reef platform. From Thursday Iceland , the main island in the Torres Strait, Sue Iceland is about 80 km away.
Sue Iceland lies between the uninhabited islets Bet Iceland , the 6.3 km north side of the Vigilant Channel is, and Poll Iceland 4.9 km south, and forms with them the "Three Sisters" called archipelago . Geographically, these belong to the archipelago of the Torres Strait Islands , administratively to the Central Islands , an island region in the Torres Shire administrative district of Queensland .
Sue is a small coral island that barely protrudes a meter above the surface of the water. Nevertheless, 246 people live on the almost 74 hectare land area (as of 2006). In 2001 there were still 216. The island also has an approximately 800-meter-long runway for small aircraft.
