The Prédio 33 , also known as Prédio 33 Andares or Prédio mcel , is a 33-story, 118.87-meter-high skyscraper in the Mozambican capital Maputo . The high-rise is located directly at the intersection of Avenida 25 de Setembro and Rua da Imprensa in the “Central C” district of the Kampfumo district.

Construction work on the building, designed by Portuguese architects Marcos Miranda Guedes and Octávio Po , began in the late 1960s / early 1970s. At that time, the colonial power Portugal was in an economically tense situation due to the ongoing colonial war against the liberation movements in the colonies. The Caixa Económica de Montepio took over the financing of the construction . The construction work dragged on and could not be completed before the Independence of Mozambique in 1975.

In the course of independence, FRELIMO, which had come to power, nationalized all property, including real estate. Construction work on the high-rise could continue, but was not completed until 1982/83. Since the completion of the construction, the building with the name "33 Andares" (33 floors) has developed into a striking landmark of the Mozambican capital and is still the highest structure in the country at 118.87 meters. The public mobile operator mCel has been using the good visibility of the house for a few years and regularly advertises its offers with a large banner (in both directions). While the first eight floors are mainly used for offices, up to the 33rd floor there are only apartments.

The house is still owned by the public authorities through the state real estate company "Domus - Sociedade de Gestão Imobiliária".

Since 2011 the building has been in the preselection for a list of monuments for the city of Maputo. It is listed under the number 31714 in the Portuguese monument database Sistema de Informação para o Património Arquitectónico , which also includes works by former Portuguese colonies.
