The olethreutes arcuella ( Olethreutes arcuella ) is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of Winder (Tortricidae).

features

The moths have a wingspan of 14 to 18 millimeters. Their coloring is only slightly variable in the extent and the intensity of the drawing. Males and females do not differ in their appearance. The forewings have an orange-reddish basic color and are patterned with metallic blue-gray lines and yellow spots. The splendor curler is one of the most colorful among the curlers. The species is very similar to Olethreutes subtilana , but has rather narrower wings. However, it is difficult to differentiate between species on the basis of external characteristics.

The caterpillars are dark purple-gray to dark brown in color and have a yellowish-brown head and a dark neck-shield.

distribution

The species is widespread in the Palearctic , but the data from the east are imprecise. It is probably missing in Japan. The species, which is often found, inhabits forests and their clearings or aisles as well as heaths with woody vegetation.

Way of life

The diurnal moths fly from May to August. You can watch them sunbathing on leaves. The dark brown caterpillars usually develop on the ground from fallen, wilted and rotting leaves. They can be found in late summer on the withered leaves of low-growing plants and in the litter between leaves. The caterpillar pupates in spring.
