Pranke Island is a small and icy island off the Bakutis coast of Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica . It is located near Siple Island in the western reaches of Russell Bay .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1959 to 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1966 after James B. Pranke, aurora researcher on Byrd Station in 1965 .
