The Prasiolaceae (Prasiolaceae) are a family of green algae from the Trebouxiophyceae class .
description
Algae of the Prasiolaceae family can be unicellular (e.g. Stichococcus species), form multicellular colonies (e.g. Prasiolopsis or Prasionella ), consist of single to multi-row threads (e.g. Rosenvingiella or Rosenvingiellopsis ) or form small leaves ( Prasiola ).
distribution
The family is distributed worldwide and occurs particularly in temperate to polar regions on both hemispheres. Here, prasiolacea can mainly be found in terrestrial habitats, occasionally also in fresh water, but also in the splash water zone along the sea coasts. Some genera (e.g. Rosenvingiella or Prasiola ) prefer locations with high nutrient input. For example, they can be found at resting places for seagulls or around penguins' nests on sub-Antarctic islands.

The family currently comprises 94 species in a total of 13 genera.
