Prezero (proper spelling: PreZero , formerly Tönsmeier ) is a German waste management company that within the waste management in the areas of waste management , recycling and recovery is active. The company's headquarters are in the East Westphalian town of Porta Westfalica in the Minden-Lübbecke district . PreZero is a subsidiary of the GreenCycle Foundation & Co. KG. and successor to the Tönsmeier Group. PreZero belongs to the Schwarz trading group from Neckarsulm, which is best known for its Lidl and Kaufland brands . According to its own information, the company employed over 3,000 people in 2017 at its locations in Germany, the Netherlands and Poland.

history

PreZero was founded in 2018 as a sales organization of GreenCycle GmbH. GreenCycle was originally responsible for the disposal and management of recyclable materials from Lidl, Kaufland and the production facilities, Mitteldeutsche Erfrischungsgetränke (MEG). The increasing know-how and the success of the recycling management in the Schwarz Group led to the expansion of the range of services to third parties. With PreZero.com, an online-based platform was created on which customers can obtain an offer in real time for the disposal of recyclable materials and waste of various fractions.

At the same time, the first discussions about the takeover of the Tönsmeier Group took place. The third-generation family-run disposal and recycling company from Porta Westfalica was founded in 1927 as a "Bahnamtliche Spedition" and was commissioned in 1958 to carry out dust-free waste collection for the first time. In the early 1990s, the first locations were opened in the new federal states and pioneering work for the newly created dual system in Germany. The company's success was internationalized when Tönsmeier opened the first branch in Poland in 1996. In the 2000s, East Westphalia entered the plastics and wood recycling business. In 2005 a participation in GRN Glasrecycling followed, in 2006 and 2007 the two light packaging (LVP) sorting plants in Porta Westfalica and Oppin with an annual sorting capacity of around 240,000 tons were put into operation after extensive renovations. In 2010 the “Energie Anlage Bernburg” (now PreZero Energy) cogeneration plant was opened.

Services

PreZero looks after municipal clients, private customers, dual system carriers and customers from industry and commerce. The range of services includes advising customers on setting up recyclable materials management concepts, analyzing the flow of recyclable materials, including developing avoidance strategies and implementing recycling approaches.

PreZero offers various technical processes for the efficient pretreatment of raw materials. Pressing and compression processes ensure that recyclable materials are prepared so that the full transport capacities can be used in logistics. The company maintains its own pressing operations for this purpose and offers its customers machines for use at the waste generation sites.

In addition, PreZero records recyclable materials of all fractions (types of waste) with over 1100 vehicles and feeds them to its own collection and sorting systems. With the sorting systems in Porta Westfalica and Oppin, around 240,000 tons of light packaging can be sorted per year. In March 2019, construction began on another facility with an annual sorting capacity of 80,000 tons in Zwolle, the Netherlands. The plant is scheduled to go into operation at the beginning of 2020 and make the previous waste transports from the Netherlands to Porta Westfalica in East Westphalia obsolete.

With PreZero Aktenvernichtung GmbH (formerly Paropa) in Hanover, the waste disposal company also offers the data protection-compliant destruction of paper-based documents and data carriers.

With the commissioning of the Bernburg substitute fuel cogeneration plant (Energie Anlage Bernburg - EAB), the company has also had its own capacities for the thermal utilization of waste for energy generation since 2010 .

Major fires

Large fires have occurred repeatedly at the company's locations in recent years: 2011 in Porta Westfalica, 2013 in Detmold, 2018 in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Lohfelden and Stadthagen, and again in Stadthagen in 2019.

Commitment and sponsorship

PreZero has been a partner of the international environmental protection organization WWF for the protection of the seas since 2015 . Among other things, PreZero supports the recovery and recycling of ghost nets from the Baltic Sea and offers technical and financial support for the disposal and implementation of waste avoidance strategies in two project regions in Vietnam.

As part of the creation of a guideline for "Enhanced Landfill Mining", funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Ministry for the Environment , the company provided answers as to whether tomorrow's raw materials can be obtained from yesterday's waste by dismantling landfills . As a result, the authors of the guideline came to the conclusion that a landfill dismantling can be possible and ecologically and economically sensible under the primary aspect of raw material recovery.

In January 2019, PreZero entered into a partnership with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and bought the naming rights to the former Wirsol Rhein-Neckar Arena, which was renamed the Prezero-Arena . In the stadium, PreZero is trying to reduce the average of four tons of residual waste by implementing a recycling management system and to create opportunities for recycling.

In cooperation with the company Creapaper, paper is made from the grass clippings in the arena. The autograph cards for the soccer players are printed on this.

In addition to the PreZero Arena, the company also supports the Klima Arena in Sinsheim. There, viewers will be shown the importance of recycling for climate protection in an interactive exhibition.

Regionally, PreZero is active as a partner of the handball Bundesliga club GWD Minden .
