butterfly

The wingspan of the moths is 45 to 50 millimeters for the males and 50 to 60 millimeters for the females. There is no sexual dimorphism . During the dry season, the moths show a red stripe on a dark brown background in the postdiscal region on the upper side of both pairs of wings in both sexes , which contains some white spots. There are light blue to whitish spots on the front edge of the forewings. All wings are lined with white. The undersides of the wings show a sharply defined dichotomy, in the outer region they are light brown, inside dark brown. The moths of the rainy season have a brown basic color, with a yellow stripe extending over both pairs of wings. This contains small brown spots and forks in a Y-shape near the apex of the forewings.

Only the shape of the rain resembles Precis ceryne's butterflies . In these, however, the yellow stripes on the pairs of wings are wider than in Precis archesia .

The distribution area of the species extends over the central and eastern part of the African continent. In Uganda it is represented by the subspecis archesia ugandensis . The species inhabits savannas , grassy hilly landscapes and rocky slopes as well as gardens and parks.
