Premio Friuli Storia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Premio Friuli Storia , in long form Premio nazionale di Storia contemporanea Friuli Storia , is an Italian literary prize that is awarded annually for a book on contemporary history . It has been awarded every September in Udine ( Friuli ) since 2014 by the FriuliStoria association for a book that combines originality, scientific thoroughness and the potential for wide distribution. The prerequisite is that the book has been published in Italy since January 1st of the previous year and deals with a topic from the history of the 19th or 20th century; Translations are not permitted.

The winner is determined in a two-stage process. A jury of specialist historians selects three finalists by the end of May each year. Under its chairman Tommaso Piffer , in 2016 it included Elena Aga Rossi , Roberto Chiarini , Ernesto Galli della Loggia , Charles Maier , Paolo Pezzino and Silvio Pons . For the years 2017 to 2019 Andrea Zannini was added. From the three finalists, 200 readers who do not belong to the academic community will choose the winner in a second phase. This is intended to raise awareness of the history of one's own country, especially among non-experts. The prize is the only award for non-fiction books at national level in Italy that is selected by a double (professional and lay) jury. The Corriere della Sera did not consider it to be a coincidence that this “important” award was created in north-eastern Italy, as this construction, aimed at a broad impact, is similar to that of the Venetian Premio Campiello and corresponds to Indro Montanelli's conviction . The prize is sponsored by the Friuli Venezia Giulia region , the Udine province , the regional Sparkassenstiftung Fondazione CRUP and the historical associations Gorizias and Pordenones in cooperation with the partisan association Osoppo Friuli and the Friulian Institute for the History of the Liberation Movement. The winner receives 6,000 euros, the finalists 2,000 euros each (as of 2016).

Previous winners were:

  • 2014: Lucia Ceci for L'interesse superiore. Il Vaticano e l'Italia di Mussolini.
  • 2015: Leonardo Campus for I sei giorni che sconvolsero il mondo. La crisi dei missili di Cuba e le sue percezioni internazionali.
  • 2016: Vladimiro Satta for I nemici della Repubblica. Ettore Cinnella and Silvia Salvatici were also nominated.
  • 2017: Maria Teresa Giusti for La campagna di Russia 1941–1943.

In 2016, the annual Premio Friuli Storia Scuole was announced for the first time in collaboration with the University of Udine . It is awarded for the best essay by an upper secondary school pupil from the Friuli region on the subject of a history book that leaves nothing out . The aim of this award is to broaden the readership of historical books among young people.
