The series consisted of the five ships President Adams , President Jackson , President Kennedy , President Polk and President Truman . According to the classification of the United States Maritime Administration (MARAD), the ship type was designated as type C10-M-F150a, or C10 for short. The series was ordered in 1986 and was created from 1988 at the Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft shipyards in Kiel and the Bremer Vulkan in Bremen / Vegesack. The client was the US shipping company American President Lines . The C10 ships could carry up to 4400 TEU containers. Its large width made it possible to stow 15 containers side by side on deck. The ships were initially used on the shipping company's transpacific service; at the end of their service life, the ships were mainly used for military transport purposes. Between June 2013 and January 2014 the ships finally arrived in Asia for scrapping.
