President Head (in Argentina Punta Tortuga for turtle tip ) is a towering headland forming on the northeastern foothills of Snow Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands .
American seal hunters from Stonnington , who operated in the waters around the South Shetland Islands between 1820 and 1821, named Snow Island as President Island . However, this name did not catch on. To protect it, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee transferred it to the headland described here in 1961. The Argentine naming is descriptive and refers to the shape of the headland.
