Press and language

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Presse und Sprache is a newspaper for everyone who learns and teaches German as a foreign language.

It is one of the language newspapers of the Bremen publishing house Carl Ed. Schünemann KG . The newspaper has been published once a month since 1956, initially by Eilers & Schünemann Verlag KG, which merged with Schünemann Verlag in 2008.

Die Presse und Sprache contains original articles from the German press and offers a selection of current articles from society and culture, politics and economy, technology and the environment, and leisure. In every issue there are also some particularly easy to read and easy to understand articles that editors write about the country and its people specifically for German learners. Reports are mainly about Germany, but also about Austria and Switzerland. In terms of content, specific regional events are conveyed that are currently of great interest in German-speaking countries.

The newspaper is aimed particularly at learners of the German language. Detailed monolingual explanations of words for the individual newspaper articles make it possible to read the articles - without looking up the dictionary - even for German learners with less advanced language skills. Editorial introductions make the articles easier to read. The difficulty levels of the texts are divided into easy (B1), medium (B2 – C1) and difficult (C2). Language didactic exercises can be found in every issue.

Supplementary exercise and teaching material (online service) is available on the publisher's website for selected articles from the language newspaper. This includes exercises in reading and listening comprehension, vocabulary and grammar as well as suggestions for oral expression and suggestions for text production. All exercises can be downloaded as worksheets. With these tasks you can specifically practice the structures of known exams from B1 to C2. B. prepare for the TestDaF (test of German as a foreign language) and the exams of the Goethe-Institut .

In addition to every issue of Press and Language , some of the articles are available for download as audio mp3 files. For every listening text there is exercise material with which you can train your listening comprehension.

In addition to the press and language , Schünemann Verlag publishes: the World and Press (English), the Business World and Press (business English), the Read On ("easy English" for less advanced learners), the Revue de la Presse (French), Revista de la Prensa (Spanish) and the Leggere l'Italia (Italian).
