origin

The family traces its origin, as does the Divéky, Rudnay, Ujfalussy, Kosztolanyi, Bossanyi etc. families back to the genus (tribe) Divék, which can be traced back to 1226.

All of these families carry the so-called bear coat of arms with slight differences in the crest and the helmet covers: blue shield, green field on it under the tree of life a standing bear. A silver crescent moon and a gold star shine from the corners. The crescent and star are sometimes reversed in the various family crests.

László, who lived around 1430, is then named after the village Príles (Hungarian: Prilesz, which means “close to the forest”). Subsequently, they carry the name as Prileszky de Prilesz de eadem et de genere Divék .

Family history (excerpt)

The male members of the family were landowners, lawyers, high officials of the Kingdom of Hungary, Jesuits and canons.

Special mention should be made of: János: He was the majordomo of King Lajos II and was captured by the Turks in the battle of Mohács (1526) . Károly: Born in 1756, in 1791 he became the Count of Trenčín and in 1809 Vice Palatine (Deputy to the King) of the Kingdom of Hungary. Subsequently he becomes royal councilor and knight of the Saint Stephen order . Since then the family has held the Hungarian magnate dignity, although they belonged to the untitled nobility.

Antal (born 1834) married Klementina von Schmerling (born 1833), a relative of the politician and Prime Minister Anton von Schmerling . Her two sons Guido and Karl (born 1862) moved to Vienna. At the end of his career, Guido became Chief Financial Officer of the Austrian government in Bosnia-Herzegovina . Karl became the last court manager of Emperor Franz Joseph I and both were elevated to the status of Hungarian baron ( barony 1916) by him. Karl had a loyal and close relationship with Emperor Franz Joseph I and when he took his last breath on November 21, 1916, only three people were present. The doctor Professor Ortner, the valet Eugen Ketterl and Baron Karl Prileszky.

A natural line also descends from Karl, legitimized in 1942 and called Wittels de genere Prileszky .
