Robert Primes

Robert Joseph Primes (born January 10, 1940 in San Francisco , California ) is an American cinematographer .

life and career

Primes initially showed an interest in photography. To do this, he traveled through Europe and shot thousands of photos there, but then turned more and more to cinematography . That is why he came to San Francisco.

There he shot advertising and short films from 1964 to 1975 and learned from experience as a cameraman. He moved to Hollywood in 1975 when he was noticed by his work in San Francisco. There he turned to films when he realized how much more he had to learn in his profession to become a top notch cameraman. He eventually became known there for his work in Rumble Fish (1983), A Bird on a Wire (1990) and MDs (2002).

Since 1990 he has been a member of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), in which he is an active participant. He has recently been teaching cinematography at the American Film Institute . He has been married to the piano player Theodora Primes since 1964.
