The Prince Hassan Air Base is a military airfield of the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) and is located about 120 km east of Amman in northeast Jordan in the desert near the town of Sawafi .
history
During the British rule, the place was called H5 and was a pumping station for the oil pipeline that went from Iraq to Haifa on the Mediterranean . Next door was a runway used by mail planes from the Royal Air Force and the Iraq Petroleum Company , which operated between Baghdad , Amman and Cairo . The base opened in 1969 and named after Prince Hassan of Jordan . The 9th Squadron with F-104A / B Starfighter Jets was set up here.

The 6th and 17th squadrons with F-5E / F fighter and reconnaissance jets are currently stationed at Prince Hassan Air Base . In 1994 fighter pilot weapons training came to the base.
