The Prince Albert Society - Royal Albert Society is a registered association with the task of promoting research on scientific, cultural and political aspects of German-British relations . The patron of the company is Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh .

history

The Prince Albert Society was founded on March 7, 1981 by the University of Bayreuth and the City of Coburg . It was created in the context of the establishment of the University of Bayreuth. Its founding president Klaus Dieter Wolff pursued the goal of anchoring the young university in the region. The naming was based on Prince Albert of Saxony-Coburg and Gotha , the husband of Queen Victoria of England , who united Great Britain and Germany and created a common heir . It was already his intention to create law and peace in Europe through a German-British cooperation in order to promote international understanding.

activities

The society holds annual German-British conferences in Coburg and London . In addition to university seminars, the society publishes the series of publications on Prince Albert Studies and the series of publications on Prince Albert Research . It also awards the Duke of Gloucester's Essay Prize in Germany and the Hans-von-Herwarth Prize in Great Britain by organizing essay competitions . The Prince Albert Society maintains close cooperation with British scientists and research institutions. Cooperation partners included the Victorian Society in London, the Royal Society of Arts , the Universities of Kingston , Leicester and Nottingham, and the AHRC Research Center for Environmental History in Stirling.
