Klaus Dieter Wolff
Klaus Dieter Wolff , also Klaus D. Wolff , (born July 1, 1935 in Breslau ; † November 22, 2007 ) was a German administrative lawyer . He was the founding president of the University of Bayreuth .
Life
Klaus Dieter Wolff studied law and in 1964 with a thesis on the individual authorization of agreements in international tax law at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich to Dr. iur. PhD . After passing the second state examination in law , he worked for the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior . In 1964 he moved to the Bavarian Ministry of Culture . There he was responsible for the organization for the newly founded University of Regensburg , from 1967 he worked directly as an administrative lawyer for the University of Regensburg. In 1968 Wolff became deputy managing director in the Science Council in Cologne and was involved in numerous start-ups of German universities and technical colleges .
In 1971 the structural advisory board for the re-establishment of the University of Bayreuth was founded under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wild . In 1973 Klaus Dieter Wolff was appointed founding president of the University of Bayreuth, and Prof. Wolfgang Wild and Prof. Walter Schmitt Glaeser were appointed vice-presidents . In 1979 and 1985, Wolff was elected President of the University of Bayreuth for a further six years in office and headed the university for a total of 18 years. In 1991, Helmut Buettner was elected as his successor as university president.
Act
The principles laid down by Wolff on the university structure, research orientation and course operations at the University of Bayreuth were later adopted by other German universities and represented a standard of university policy in Germany.
He implemented numerous scientific concepts and university partnerships of Bayreuth University in a national and international context and was instrumental in setting up the Africa Institute, the Bavarian Research Institute for Experimental Geochemistry and Geophysics (Bavarian Geo-Institute), the Institute for Terrestrial Ecosystem Research (BITÖK) and the development of the Faculty for Applied science involved.
After reunification , he campaigned for the Saxon and Thuringian universities, in particular as chairman of the board of trustees of the TU Chemnitz and founding commissioner for the University of Erfurt , and was committed to the integration into the federal German higher education system.
Wolff was heavily involved in the European University Association (EUA) and the integration of the universities in the Baltic countries and the universities in the former Yugoslavia as well as the Bologna process . Since 1996, he has also been the only German representative on a committee that evaluates universities for the European Rectors' Conference. He was the founder and long-time chairman of the Acquin evaluation agency .
