Walter Schmitt Glaeser

Walter Schmitt Glaeser (born October 2, 1933 in Munich ) is a German lawyer and university professor specializing in constitutional law . He was President of the Bavarian Senate from 1994 to 1996 .

After studying law, he passed the two state law examinations in 1957 and 1961, respectively. In 1959 he received his doctorate and in 1968 his habilitation . From 1969 he was professor for public law at the Philipps University of Marburg . Since 1970 he has been the author of a standard work on administrative procedural law. In 1973 he was appointed Vice President of the University of Bayreuth , which was being founded. In 1975 he became professor for public law and administrative sciences in Bayreuth. From 1987 he was a member of the Bavarian Constitutional Court and the Bavarian Senate, where he served as its president from 1994 to 1996. His rather confrontational style as president was one of the triggers for the popular initiative “Lean State without Senate” , which ended with the abolition of the Bavarian Senate in 2000. In 1994/95 Schmitt-Glaeser was chairman of the Association of German Constitutional Law Teachers .

Schmitt Glaeser retired in 2001 . He is a CSU party member.
