Hans Weiß (born December 12, 1919 in Munich ; † October 16, 2008 ibid) was a German politician (CSU) and the first freely elected Lord Mayor of Bad Kissingen after the Second World War .

Life

After graduating from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich in 1939 , Weiss studied law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . He was active in politics at an early stage: He became a co-founder of the Munich Christian Social Union (CSU) and its first local association chairman in Haidhausen . For a time he was also deputy CSU party chairman. He was in close contact with party chairman Josef Müller ("Ochsensepp") and the young Franz Josef Strauss .

Weiss did his doctorate under Wilhelm Hoegner , one of the "fathers" of the Bavarian constitution, first became public prosecutor and then personal advisor to Josef Müller, who has since been promoted to Minister of Justice . At the encouragement of Engelbert Hofmann , Member of the State Parliament at the time , Weiss ran for the election of the mayor of Bad Kissingen against a local in 1952 and won the first free direct election after the collapse of the Third Reich with a good 60 percent of the votes cast on March 30, 1952 . On May 1, 1952, Weiß took up his post in Bad Kissingen as the successor to Karl Fuchs , making him the youngest mayor of his time in Bavaria .

From 1954 to 1966 he was President of the Lower Franconian District Assembly, and from 1966 to 1970 a member of the Bavarian State Parliament . From 1959 to 1972 he was chairman of the district association of the Bavarian Red Cross .

During his term of office as Lord Mayor, the opening of the Bad Kissinger terrace swimming pool falls among other things . In addition, Weiß was one of the leading personalities in the implementation of the regional reform of July 1, 1972. Ultimately, Bad Kissingen's status as a “ major district town ” is due to him.

As Lord Mayor of this "large district town", Weiß was first chairman of the Bavarian Municipal Council from 1972 until his resignation from the office of Lord Mayor in 1984 , then its honorary chairman, from 1972 until its dissolution in 2000 he was a member of the Bavarian Senate and in from 1982 to 1993 its president.

After 32 years of service, Hans Weiß left his post in 1984 as the first freely and directly elected mayor of the post-war period.
