Individual evidence
- ↑ Scanzoni is described in the city chronicle as the first honorary citizen. The biographer Gerhard Wulz pointed out in the Saale-Zeitung of April 4, 2006 that Scanzoni had only received an honorary cup. There is no reference to the granting of honorary citizenship in the council minutes.
- ↑ Balling does not appear in the city chronicle in the list of honorary citizens. The biographer Gerhard Wulz explicitly mentions this award.
- ↑ Saale-Zeitung of November 23, 1879 (section "Bayerische Nachrichten") as well as a letter from the city council of November 14, 1879.
- ↑ This spa guest is likely to be the Berlin manufacturer Georg Wilhelm Rengert, brother of the co-partner Gustav Adolph Rengert.
- ↑ It should be the privateer Moses Hirsch Farrnbacher from Frankfurt (Main), co-owner of the company S. Farrnbacher & Sohn in Fürth.
- ↑ According to the Bavarian municipal code, honorary citizenship is a highly personal right and automatically expires with the death of an owner.
