Friedrich Reinhard Karl Ludwig Graf von Luxburg (born August 21, 1829 in Laubegast , † November 23, 1905 in Würzburg ) was a Bavarian treasurer and district president of Lower Franconia .

Friedrich Graf von Luxburg came from the council Gender of Girtanner of St. Gallen ( Switzerland ), which mentioned there in 1386 and 1776 after their property Chateau Luxburg in Egnach on Lake Constance as "Girtanner Ritter Edler von Luxburg" in the kingdom of knighthood , in 1779 in the imperial baron and 1790 had been raised to the rank of imperial count .

He was the son of the royal Bavarian treasurer and envoy Friedrich von Luxburg (1783-1856), who was enrolled with his siblings on January 11, 1813 in the Count's class in the Kingdom of Bavaria, and Maria Anna Freiin von Gumppenberg (1793-1854), Sister of the Bavarian state parliament member Wilhelm von Gumppenberg .

Life

Friedrich von Luxburg attended the Collège Le Grand in Paris from 1840 to 1845 , after which he was a page at the Bavarian royal court of Ludwig I in Munich . He later studied law at the universities of Heidelberg , Berlin and Munich and passed his state examination in law in 1853 .

In 1856 he succeeded Wilhelm Bucher as district judge, district administrator and bath commissioner (spa director) in Kissingen . During this time, in 1860, he bought the building of the Hausen monastery and set up a district rescue center for girls in it , which later became a children's home. In 1863 he was replaced by Joseph von Parseval . Then he was a judge in Regensburg and Munich .

From 1867 to 1868 and between 1871 and 1881 he was a member of the German Reichstag , where he represented the constituency of Lower Franconia 4 ( Neustadt an der Saale ) from 1871 to 1874 and joined the parliamentary group of the Liberal Reich Party. After its dissolution, he joined the German Reich Party and was a member of the Reichstag from 1877 to 1881 as a member of the constituency of Lower Franconia 5 ( Schweinfurt ). From 1868 to 1901, von Luxburg was the regional president of the administrative district of Lower Franconia and Aschaffenburg . In this position, he primarily promoted agriculture, industry, education and general welfare.

In 1873, von Luxburg acquired Aschach Castle near Bad Kissingen as a family property and expanded it. In 1955 his son Karl von Luxburg donated the entire property to the district of Lower Franconia . Today the castle with its outbuildings can be visited as a museum .

As an art lover, he founded the Franconian Art and Antiquity Association in Würzburg in 1893 , which still exists today as a friend of Main Franconian art and history . His friend Karl Streit from Bad Kissingen was one of his expert advisors when it came to purchasing works of art for his collection .

Friedrich von Luxburg died on November 23, 1905 at the age of 76 in Würzburg. His grave is in the chapel cemetery in Bad Kissingen.

Friedrich von Luxburg married on September 21, 1869 at Carolath Castle near Beuthen an der Oder , Lower Silesia Princess Luise von Schoenaich-Carolath -Beuthen (born November 4, 1847 in Breslau , Lower Silesia ; † September 30, 1929 in Munich), the daughter of Ludwig Prince von Schoenaich-Carolath-Beuthen (1811–1862) and Wanda Countess Henckel von Donnersmarck (1826–1907).
