Maximilian Joseph Freiherr von Zu Rhein (born August 7, 1780 in Würzburg , † October 21, 1832 in Munich ) was a Bavarian civil servant and general commissioner of the Lower Main District from 1826 to 1831 and then briefly as State Minister of Justice .

Life

Max von Zu Rhein was born in Würzburg as the son of the officer Franz Joseph von zu Rhein into the aristocratic family Zu Rhein . He studied law at the University of Mainz and at the University of Würzburg . In 1800 he became the prince-bishop of Würzburg court and councilor. In 1803 he changed to the court courts in Bamberg and Würzburg in the Kurpfalzbaierische service . In 1811 he became Vice President of the newly founded Grand Ducal Tuscan Regional Directorate in Würzburg. In 1814, after the end of the Grand Duchy of Würzburg, he was accepted into the service of the Kingdom of Bavaria . In 1826 Max von Zu Rhein was appointed fourth general commissioner and president of the government of the Untermainkreis in Würzburg. During his reign in 1831 he founded the Historical Association for the Lower Main District . On January 1, 1832 he was appointed Minister of State for Justice ; however, he died that same year in Munich.

Max von Zu Rhein was married to Therese Freiin von Schütz-Holtzhausen (1782–1837). His sons were Friedrich Freiherr von Zu Rhein and Philipp Freiherr von Zu Rhein .
