To the Rhine
Zu Rhein (also: ze Rhin, ze Rin, ze Rine, de Reno) is the name of an Upper Rhine ministerial family that has been attested since the 12th century.
history
The oldest known mention of the Zu Rhein dates from 1164. They were citizens of Basel and belonged to the noble society of Psitticher . The family had a Breisgau line from around 1260 . The line remaining in the Basel area was called zu Rhein von Häsingen . At the beginning of the 14th century, another branch line established itself in Mulhouse in Alsace . A Bavarian branch later emerged from this line.
