Friedrich von Luxburg (diplomat)

Friedrich Christian Johann Graf von Luxburg (born June 20, 1783 in Zweibrücken , † July 10, 1856 in Reichenhall ) was a royal Bavarian State Councilor and envoy .

origin

He came from a St. Gallen council family and was the son of Johann Friedrich Freiherr von Luxburg (1748–1820), who was raised to the rank of imperial count in 1790 , the Palatinate Count of Zweibrücken and Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt, Privy Councilor and Oberschenk and Maria Freiin Vogt of Hunolstein . His sister Auguste (* 1788) was married to Freiherr Wilhelm von Berstett (1769–1837), Grand Duke of Baden's Cabinet Minister and President of the State Ministry.

On January 11, 1813, Friedrich and his siblings were enrolled in the Count's class in the Kingdom of Bavaria.

Life

He was a student in Marburg in 1798 and “a pupil in Creuzer's institute until 1800 ” . Since then he has remained connected with Creuzer and Friedrich Karl von Savigny throughout his life , but also studied in Göttingen and Heidelberg.

Luxburg was the royal Bavarian treasurer and state councilor . From August 15, 1803 he was attached to the Bavarian embassy in Switzerland, from September 5, 1806 he was legation secretary and interim chargé d'affaires in Bern . In 1808 he was transferred to Saint Petersburg and in 1810 to Paris . In 1813 he was transferred to the Westphalian court in Kassel and in 1814 went into temporary retirement. In 1816 he was envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary at the Saxon court in Dresden and lived there behind the Frauenkirche 5A .

In Dresden, Luxburg married Maria Anna Freiin von Gumppenberg-Pöttmes, sister of the Bavarian state parliament member Wilhelm von Gumppenberg , on January 7, 1819 , and had two sons and three daughters with her. The couple moved into the house at Scheffelgasse 155, not far from what was then Dresden's town hall on Dresden's Altmarkt . There, the charge d'affaires (previously lodged d'affaires ) of the Embassy of the Royal Danish Court , the born with Mathilde Therese Holsten married Legation Councilor Mathias Friis von Irgens-Bergh.

From 1826 he was ambassador in Berlin , where he a. a. was responsible for connecting Bavaria to the Zollverein . From 1836 to 1840 he was Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary in Paris and finally from 1847 to 1849 in Vienna .

He married the baroness Maria Anna von Gumppenberg-Pöttmers on January 7, 1819 (* November 27, 1795, † October 26, 1854). The couple had several children including:
