Gottfried Delius (born March 18, 1802 in Bielefeld , † September 5, 1886 ibid) was a German entrepreneur and owner of the weaving and linen shop " EA Delius " in Bielefeld.

Life

He was the son of Ernst August Delius and his wife Christine Philippine Elisabeth and was baptized on March 31, 1802 in Bielefeld.

Gottfried Delius was the fourth generation to join the company founded in 1722 as a linen business by Johann Caspar Delius , which was renamed in 1795 by his father Ernst-August in Bielefeld as the tape and thread factory "EA Delius". Gottfried's brother Gustav Delius followed him a little later.

Under Gottfried Delius ' direction, in addition to the production of linen, silk production was started in 1830 , for which his eldest son Carl Albrecht Delius founded the silk weaving mill CA Delius & Sons. However, the competition from English machine yarn caused the company enormous economic difficulties, so that in the years 1848/1849 the linen business was completely ruined.

A few years later, however, the company recovered. After all, in 1867 Gottfried Delius was once again one of the ten largest taxpayers in the city of Bielefeld. In 1886, it is from the town of Bad Kissingen , the honorary citizenship bestowed, for which well - as was customary in Bad Kissingen - numerous visits to the renowned spa town of the reason may have been.

Gottfried Delius married Sophie Emilie Bertelsmann in 1826 , with whom he had eight children (including Carl Albrecht Delius ).
