Ernst August Delius (1763–1839)

Ernst August Delius (born August 31, 1763 in Bielefeld ; † 1839 ) was a merchant and senator in Bielefeld. He founded a linen shop in Bielefeld in 1787 and, from 1794, also sold Delius linen internationally to America and the West Indies .

Live and act

Ernst August Delius was the son of Daniel Adolf Delius . After finishing school, he completed a bank apprenticeship in Berlin. In 1787 he was elected to the magistrate of the city of Bielefeld.

On July 23, 1788 he married in Versmold Philippina Christina Elisabeth Delius, a second cousin and daughter of the Versmold mayor and linen dealer Anton Heinrich Delius . Their children were among others Gustav Delius and Gottfried Delius .

Ernst August Delius was Ravensberg's representative in Paris in 1807 , where after the collapse of Prussia and the founding of the Kingdom of Westphalia by Napoleon, representatives of the various provinces of the new kingdom welcomed King Jérôme (Napoleon's brother), attended his wedding and worked on the constitution. A special day of honor for him was when King Friedrich Wilhelm III. stayed as a guest in his home.

He was a co-founder of the "Ressource" society, which later all the leading factory and trading companies joined, and a co-founder of a Masonic lodge .
