Zarewa liwada [ ˈtsarɛvɐ liˈvadɐ ] ( Bulgarian Царева ливада ; scientific transliteration Careva livada , English transcription Tsareva livada , also Tzareva livada ) is a village in northern Bulgaria .

geography

The village is located in the Gabrovo Oblast , in the municipality of Drjanowo, 405 m above sea level and has 749 inhabitants. It is located on the Tsareva Liwada – Gabrovo railway line. The village is 5 km from Drjanowo .

history

During the communist rule the village was called Warbanowo ( Bulgarian Върбаново ). Tsarewa liwada originated in the 18th or 19th century and became more important after the construction of the railway line at the beginning of the 20th century. In the Middle Ages, the summer palace of the Bulgarian Tsar Ivan Assen II was on the hill above the village . This is where his name comes from - in Bulgarian " Tsar " means "king" and "liwada" - "meadow".
