Karl Fuchs (born June 17, 1881 in Forchheim , † February 22, 1972 in Bad Kissingen ) was a bank director and Bad Kissingen's first mayor after the Second World War.

Life

He was born as the son of Forchheim's mayor Theobald Fuchs, who two years later was mayor of Bad Kissingen and in 1910 as Theobald von Fuchs was elevated to the Bavarian personal nobility . Son Karl attended elementary school in Bad Kissingen and then high school in Neuburg an der Donau .

He then studied law and political science as well as economics and finance at the universities of Munich and Erlangen . In 1904 he received his doctorate. jur. and passed his assessor exam in 1906 .

After only a short stint at the Würzburg municipal tax office , Fuchs switched to banking and worked in Würzburg and Nuremberg before he joined the “Pfälzische Bank” in Frankfurt am Main in 1916. In 1917 he was transferred to Munich and in 1920 appointed to the board of directors in Ludwigshafen am Rhein .

When the “Pfälzische Bank” was absorbed by the “ Rheinische Creditbank ” in Mannheim in 1922 , Fuchs was taken over on its board. After the merger of “Creditbank” with “ Deutsche Bank ” he took over the management of the branch in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. Here he was also heavily involved in economic life: he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry , was a local representative of the "Reichsgruppe Banken" for vocational training, was chairman of the examination office for clerks in the chamber district and much more, including in the professional voluntary area.

When Fuchs reached retirement age in 1946, he looked around for a new job and applied for a job. a. for the post of First Mayor of Bad Kissingen, especially since he figured he had great chances, since his father had already held this office there for over three decades.

For the time being, however, he did not get a move. However, after the mayor Franz Rothmund, who had initially been appointed, was suspended because of his former NSDAP membership and the position was advertised again, the city ​​council decided on April 30, 1947 to work with the "Deutsche Bank" because of the pension entitlement of Dr. Contact fox. Finally, on May 2, 1947, Fuchs was elected by the city council as the legally qualified First Mayor, who took office on June 1. When Bad Kissingen became a district direct on April 1, 1948, the “First Mayor” became the “Lord Mayor”. Shortly after it was founded, Fuchs joined the Christian Social Union (CSU).

In the city council meeting on April 29, 1952, Fuchs was retired from his office, but he remained present in Bad Kissingen's public life and was involved, among other things. a. in the German Red Cross and in the Rhön Club . On February 8, 1972, he was thrown to the ground by a car on the market square, where the 90-year-old was so badly injured that he died exactly 14 days later.

Fuchs' successor as Lord Mayor of Bad Kissingen was Hans Weiß (politician, 1919) .
