Franz Gerstner (politician, 1925)

Franz Gerstner (born May 13, 1925 in Obermarchtal ; † February 16, 2013 in Würzburg ) was a German politician ( CSU ) and administrative lawyer.

Life

Gerstner was born in Obermarchtal (Baden-Württemberg) in 1925. As a young paratrooper in Normandy, he witnessed the landing of the Allied forces. After the war he studied law in Würzburg, did his doctorate and was managing director of the Würzburg student union from 1951 and of the Würzburg utility and transport company from 1971 to 1989 . In the city council of Würzburg he was active for the CSU from 1960 to 1971. From 1966 to 1994 he was a member of the District Assembly of Lower Franconia and was District Assembly President from 1970 to 1994 . During Gerstner's tenure, among other things, the municipal area reform in Bavaria and numerous innovations in psychiatry fell. He also campaigned for the regional partnership between the Calvados department and Lower Franconia. Gerstner died on February 16, 2013 in Würzburg.

He is also the founder of the Dr. Franz Gerstner grant.
