Friedrich Medicus , Knight of Medicus since 1897 (born November 11, 1847 in Karlstadt am Main, † March 30, 1904 in Aschaffenburg ) was a mayor of Aschaffenburg.

Life

Medicus was born as the son of the court doctor Dr. Friedrich Medicus and his wife Auguste geb. Eschenbach, born. After primary school in his place of birth, he attended the royal boys' seminar at the Aschaffenburg college (lyceum, grammar school and Latin school) from 1864 . After graduating from high school in 1867, he studied philosophy, law and economics at the University of Würzburg .

On May 24, 1877, he was elected mayor at the election meeting of all municipal representatives with voting rights. After confirmation by the State Ministry of the Interior, the ceremonial introduction to his new office took place on July 3, 1877 in the Deutschhaus . A year after taking office, Friedrich Medicus received the citizenship of the city of Aschaffenburg in order to be able to marry. The marriage certificate was issued to him and Anna Ungerer from Ockstadt on April 8, 1878. The civil wedding took place on May 18, 1878 in Würzburg.

Medicus, who was also a member of the Bavarian State Parliament from 1885/86 and from 1887 to 1903, received Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria several times , who awarded him the Order of Saint Michael IV and III. Excellent class. The Prince Regent bestowed the highest distinction on him on October 10, 1897, when Medicus received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown from him , with which his elevation to the personal nobility was connected. On March 12, 1902, the 80th birthday of the Prince Regent, the mayor and district administrator Friedrich Ritter von Medicus was awarded the title of "Privy Councilor".

During his term of office, the 900th anniversary of the collegiate church (1882), the inauguration of the new Main Bridge (Ludwigsbrücke, 1891), the raft harbor (1892), the incorporation of the previously independent community Leider (March 1, 1901) and the re-incorporation of Dam (July 1, 1901).

The following were also built during the mayor's term of office, Friedrich von Medicus: The Gentil pump factory (1892, Lange Straße), the former Goldbacher Straße depot with two ring lock sheds (1893), the former Desch clothing factory (1892, Ludwigstraße), the Güldner Motorengesellschaft ( 1904, today: Kion company, Schweinheimer Straße), the copper and brass works C. Heckmann (1904, today TRW, Hefner-Alteneck-Straße) and the Jägerkaserne (1895, today Aschaffenburg University, Würzburger Straße).

On July 3, 1902, he celebrated his 25th service anniversary. Friedrich Ritter von Medicus died on March 30, 1904. He found his final resting place in the old town cemetery. In recognition of his services and in memory and honor, the city council named a street after him in 1949.
