Willi Reiland
Willi Reiland (* 2 November 1933 in Upper Old Town , Czechoslovakia ; † 14. November 2015 in Haibach ) was a German politician of the SPD . From 1970 to 2000 he was Lord Mayor of the Lower Franconian city of Aschaffenburg in the Free State of Bavaria .
Life
In September 1946, at the age of twelve, Reiland was evicted along with his family. The family came to Haibach in the Aschaffenburg district . After attending secondary school in Aschaffenburg , Reiland passed his Abitur in 1953 and studied law in Würzburg . In 1957 he passed his first state examination. He finished his legal traineeship in 1961 with the Second State Examination. Subsequently, Reiland became an assessor at the Aschaffenburg public prosecutor's office. He received his doctorate in 1960. jur. with the topic The draft of a Bavarian general administrative law .
On July 14, 1962, Reiland married Elvira Hattig. The couple had two sons. In 1977 they were presented to the British Queen Elizabeth II and Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh , during a visit to the Scottish twin city of Perth .
Reiland's 30-year term as Lord Mayor ended on April 30, 2000. His hobbies were collecting minerals, tennis and golf.
On November 20, 2015, Reiland was buried in a grave of honor in the old town cemetery in Aschaffenburg.
Political career

- 1962–1970 member of the Bavarian state parliament (direct election), spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group on the judicial budget and other legal issues, member of the legal, constitutional and municipal committees
- 1966 election as honorary mayor of the Haibach community

Lord Mayor
On March 8, 1970, Reiland was elected Lord Mayor of the city of Aschaffenburg with 60.15% of the vote and a voter turnout of 80.81%. At first he continued the initiatives of his predecessor Vinzenz Schwind : the expansion of the Ringstrasse, the expansion of the green areas, the maintenance of a useful monument preservation and the completion of the City Galerie as well as the settlement of new businesses. He also promoted residential construction projects.
For his second electoral term, he defined the following priorities, declared as the work program 1976–1982 : Further development of the transport and urban planning concept, expansion of the northern ring, landing tunnel, development of new residential areas, promotion of young people and senior citizens as well as maintaining the Franco-German friendship with the twin town of Saint -Germain-en-Laye .
The construction of the new clinic, the town hall and Unterfrankenhalle , the ice rink, the west and south ring, as well as the beginning of the partnership with the Hungarian city of Miskolc fell into his third election period . The next twelve years were also filled with important projects, the best known of which was the construction of a water treatment plant, a pilot project that was unique in Europe.
