Life

His father, the fine baker from Wittlich in the Eifel, let him learn the trade of a businessman after finishing school. Due to his very good knowledge of both spoken and written , he succeeded in becoming a recorder at the district and city court of Aschaffenburg. He married Anna Maria Menten (1779–1844) from Aschaffenburg. This marriage resulted in three children: Christoph (district forester in the Rheinpfalz) Eva Maria (later moved to Speyer ) and Maria Anna (married the teacher Conrad Buhl). At the age of 54 he was elected mayor of the city of Aschaffenburg. He promoted the expansion of the city's water supply network. Through his advocacy and mediation, it was possible for the Protestant community in Aschaffenburg to buy the former Scholasteriehof "Zum Schelmen" in order to pray there and give religious instruction to the Protestant children. (The foundation stone for the construction of the Christ Church was laid at this point in 1837; the inauguration took place in 1839) Suspended from work in 1831, he lived withdrawn, fell seriously ill in 1833 and finally died on September 2, 1834 at the age of 61 of pulmonary consumption .
