William Edgar Exshaw (born February 15, 1866 in Arcachon , France , † March 16, 1927 in Valencia , Spain ) was a British sailor .

William Exshaw, who sailed for the Société Nautique de Gironde , took part in the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris , where he competed in three competitions. In the open class he did not reach the goal, while he was two - time Olympic champion in the boat class 2 to 3 tons in two races in Meulan-en-Yvelines . He was skipper of the yacht Ollé both times and relegated the boat Favorite, led by Léon Susse , to second place. Since the crew members Frédéric Blanchy and Jacques Le Lavasseur were French, the boat crew was run by the IOC as a mixed crew .
Exshaw lived in Arcachon, his birthplace, where his family ran a brandy production company. He also owned land near Inverness and married the daughter of Sir Sandford Fleming, who worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway . Exshaw served as a lieutenant in the Duke of Wellington's Regiment . He died on board one of his yachts during a sailing trip in the Mediterranean.
