Heribert Thallmair

Heribert Thallmair (* 23. May 1936 in Roth ) is a German politician of the CSU .

Life and politics

Heribert Thallmair attended the Benedictine grammar school in Ettal and the humanistic grammar school in Munich-Pasing and graduated from high school in 1956. This was followed by law studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and at the University of Cologne . He passed his first state examination in 1961 and his second state examination in 1965 and then worked as a lawyer in Starnberg . During this time he already moved into the Starnberg City Council and District Assembly for the CSU in 1966. He was then elected First Mayor of Starnberg from 1969 to 2002 as the successor to Rudolf Widmann .

In 1984 the Bavarian Municipal Assembly elected him president. From May 1994 to December 1995 and from January 1998 to December 2000 he was President of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities .

From 1996 to 1999 he was the last president of the Bavarian Senate, which was then dissolved by referendum . In 2002 he was appointed honorary president of the Bavarian Municipal Association.

Honors

Heribert Thallmair received the Bavarian Order of Merit and the municipal medal of merit in gold. In 1991 he was awarded the First Class Cross of Merit and in 2000 the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was also awarded the Carl Orff Medal in 2003 . This award is given at different intervals to people and institutions who have made an outstanding contribution to the singing and music schools in Bavaria. In 2017 Heribert Thallmair was awarded the “Municipal Prize” of the Bavarian Municipal Day.
