The Prinzregentenbrunnen is a fountain built in honor of the Bavarian Prince Regent Luitpold in the station district of Augsburg . It is located on Prinzregentenplatz and is an architectural monument .

history

At the end of the 19th century, the Augsburg city magistrate decided to erect a memorial to the Prince Regent, who had ruled since 1886, on his 80th birthday (1901). For this purpose, a monumental fountain was planned on the former Schnurbeinschen garden area. However, construction of the fountain did not begin until 1901 and its unveiling was celebrated in 1903.

The bronze statue of the fountain was removed from Augsburg during the Second World War and brought to Hamburg. There it narrowly escaped being melted down and could be put back on the well in 1950.
